My understanding is that most X race organizers pay for the restoration either
in dollars or volunteer work...if they didn't, the parks would not allow them.

Whether or not this is a valid attack it doesn't matter...this is a PR game.
ATV users want access to silent sport trails. Bicyclists and other silent sport
folks have argued that ATVs destroy trails (especially trails that were not
designed for ATV use)...so the ATV folks are taking the X race photos out of
context to try and give bikes a bad image. They want the image of bikes
destroying a park to be in people's heads...never mind what the reality is or
that it isn't the same thing as ripping up a trail (never mind the other ATV
silent sport trail use issues).

ATVs got a black eye on the Badger State Trail recently...this is one of many
rounds of striking back. Bicyclists have to hold ourselves to the highest
standards (which I think that these X racers do) and to keep fighting
back...but always in the most professional and reasonable way
possible...without name calling.

This is a war...there will be lots of small battles along the way and they
won't all be fair.
