I have a Katai that uses 700C tires and I picked up a studded tire this year 
for my front.  The studs do not stick out further than the tread of the tire so 
you should be fine with a studded tire with a fender.  Maybe someone else can 
give you a little more info on that, but I would think that you would be fine.  

For the love of studs.......tires that is!!!!  Ha
