Bikies, I will second that on the Nokian Mount & Ground tires. My first pair lasted about 8 winters and the studs were still good. What wore out were the nylon cords on the inside surface under the studs. The flexing underneath the studs caused some of the cords to break and puncture the inner tube.
I have never fallen with these tires except for a test where I deliberately locked up the brakes on an icy patch polished by the busses to see what would happen. Even then I just laid the bike over and stood up. It I don't think I can get to work on these tires, it is time to break out the cross country skis (as on February 6) or just stay home. I got my Mount & Ground tires at Budget and I think they were in the $45-50/tire range. -- Mark N.
