The current issue of Sierra magazine has three or four articles on
biking. The first describes an early 1900's ELEVATED BIKEWAY in LOS
ANGELES, constructed of wood.  It includes a few fascinating photos.  I
believe there is a 10-lane freeway in that corridor now.  Read it and
weep.  But there are some encouraging thoughts on salvaging good riding
space even there.

One of the many recommendations put forward by the Platinum Biking City
Planning Committee is to create a system of "Bicycle Boulevards".  Here
is great video showing one of Portland Oregon's bicycle boulavards:

What is nice about this video is that it not only shows how wonderful
bicycle boulevards are, but it also gives advocates an idea of what kind
of hurdles these projects may face.
