An acquaintance of mine who lives right on that corner heard the very
loud impact of this collision, and was pleased to see a number of
students converging to call an ambulance, comfort the cyclist, etc.,
before she could even get out of her back yard.

She said there is no stop sign on Van Hise, which comes down a long hill
at that junction. She sees lots of cyclists just speed through without
really checking for traffic, which is often comprised of UW students
driving a bit too fast to get to Regent Street.

She was nearby as a police officer picked up the bike and remarked at
how little damage there was compared to the injuries incurred by the
cyclist. The car windshield was heavily shattered.

She also told me from her observation, the cyclist was NOT WEARING A
HELMET... :(

Let's be careful out there, regardless of if you're driving, walking, or
biking!
