The trail you are referring to is called the Badger State Trail and
extends south to the state line where it connects to a trail in
Illinois. The City of Fitchburg and WisDNR applied for Federal
Transportation Enhancement Program funding to pave the northern segment
of the trail from Purcell Road to the junction of the Capital City Trail
and Southwest Path. The project has a good chance of getting funded. If
it is, it would be done in 2010. A committee set up by WisDOT determines
which projects get funded. WisDOT asks MPOs to rank projects within
their urban areas, which the committee considers in making its
decisions. The Madison Area Transportation Planning Board - the MPO for
the Madison Area - ranked the Badger State Trail #2 of 11 projects
submitted. The #1 ranked project was the final phase of the Starkweather
Creek path, including an overpass of Aberg Avenue, connecting it to the
existing path to MATC. WisDOT will announce which projects are getting
funded this funding cycle at the end of the summer.

Subject: [Bikies] Southbound Trail to Monticello?

Just wondering...any known date as to when the northernmost portion of
that trail will be done...I haven't been on but had friends who did
yesterday and thought it would be great...it would make sense to get it
connected to Fitchburg asap.
