Bill and John make good points about the duck-bill racks not working well with
front-racked bikes. Nor do they work well with trailers. I suppose it's a
confirmation of the need for different types of racks.

I *did* notice on campus yesterday that there was a modified duck-bill rack
that had a rod welded across the top of all the stalls (can't remember where I
saw it, but it was new, or newly painted silver). So they must still be making
them? Anyone know about this? It wasn't a nice bright powder coat, and still
didn't extend above a snow drift, but it looked nice. (And what would a "bike
parking" sign above a snow drift really provide, except a humorous photo
opportunity?)

thanks!
John Martin
