Hello All, I spoke with the Ride The Drive group and we had quite a thorough discussion on the feasibility of making Shoot the Commute happen before Ride the Drive. Unfortunately, the final agreement was that while it's an awesome idea, logistically it's too much to try and manage. The streets will not be closed until 8am. Which means we'd have only 1 hour to get set up and the photos done before the course opens. We might also have to deal with trucks and cars dropping off equipment for the many activities being set up along the route between 8 - 9am. There is also a run scheduled before 10am on part of the course. This particular Ride The Drive includes Lance Armstrong, which has brought more logistical details to the table. The Commitee decided that there are already too many details for pulling off Ride The Drive and adding this would be too challenging and stressful.
However, all agreed that this is a very cool idea. There was interest from a few on the committee to help us get a street closure some other time besides during Ride The Drive. It actually may be easier to plan it outside of Ride The Drive as there would be far fewer issues to deal with. Thanks for the interest and energy. If folks would like to get together and talk about other options for a separate photo opportunity, I'd be interested in joining the discussion or can help plan a meeting.
