Ronald,
I don't know if there are any limitations on passing specific to a bike boulevard. Which street was it?

I used to think that a double-yellow line meant 'no passing'. But I think someone on this list stated that its legal to pass a bike even with a double-yellow.

The DOT rule is that cars must pass with at least 3 feet of clearance. That should allow for wobbling. Bikes are supposed to give an audible signal when passing others, but I don't believe that motor vehicles are required to. They're usually noisy.

So, assuming it was at least 3 feet, it was probably legal.

It would be one thing if the driver said, "I'm sorry you were startled, but I passed with the legally required distance." But it sounds like this driver is indifferent to the rules of the road. "Get over it" is clearly the mark of an asshole.

I have a question regarding the bike boulavard. The other day I was riding with my son side by side when I was suprised by a car that passed us, I left my son at the next intersection and caught up with the car at a stoplight on Willy street. Before I had a chance to say anything the female passenger got very defensive telling me that it was a shared road and that I shouldn't "start anything".

The driver stated that he passed in a safe manner as he is allowed to do, although I disagree that it was safe, and the driver also stated that he was a biker and I should get over it.

Although I think they were ass-holes I must admit that I am unsure who was right and simply stated that my kid was with me.

So is a driver allowed to pass a bike on the boulevard, should he give a warning before doing so? I have medical issues that some times affect my ability to not wobble when I ride so I am a little sensitive about being passed in such a manner. Thanks.
