This is absolutely because of the recently completed Cannonball section and the lack of a crosswalk across Fish Hatchery at its current terminus. I was planning on asking Tony about the style and timeline of that crosswalk today, so I've copied them here.
There was a fair amount of discussion about this on a past thread and I don't think there's any opportunity in the next decade or more for a side path on the west side of FH road. (It really should have been considered when FH was redone and would have been a better solution than the onstreet unbuffered lane we were left with, but...) There are plans to continue the Cannonball along the rail corridor across FH and then north through Bowman Woods (east side of the ball park by Wright MS) to the Wingra Path. This will be a great addition and think it may be scheduled for next year (Tony can probably comment on that as well). I'm hopeful that we will also continue the path along the corridor to Park St. and ideally all the way to Beld to make a great route from our southside all the way to Downtown. I don't know how far out we are from redeveloping the Thorstad property, but that's probably the time we secure some land along the RR to make it happen.
