Grant. Contact me. I was directly involved with money and design and got the DNR to revive an old transportation $$ application, which they got. The non-paving in Verona was a DNR concession to snowmobile groups - do not blame Verona. It had nothing to do with maintenance.

Is that the trail that goes right through Verona? They needed or wanted Verona to approve this, perhaps to pay or share in the costs or for a maintenance agreement, but Verona declined. You might check with the WisDNR Southern Unit (based out of Fish Hatchery Road), or with Central Office, to explore options for discussing paving this section. I believe the contact is Kevin Swenson ([email protected] ). My guess is that, as it's a snowmobile trail and snowmobilers put up a lot more $$ than bikers, and pavement and sleds are a bad combination, it's a difficult work-out. Just speculating here... I rode PB to Franklin on Tuesday and it was dry, but so rutted that I wouldn't suggest riding it to anyone. This was unloaded with 32c tires. I do think paving is the long-term answer for this stretch, but agree that some grooming and addition of gravel would improve things significantly. This has happened at least the last three spring seasons. On Thu, Apr 14, 2016 at 8:30 AM Robert F. Nagel <[email protected]> wrote: Good question. I have a more narrow one though. How is the trail now? The ruts were so bad the last time I went out to it, it wasn't rideable. Is it rideable yet? Does it get groomed at all? Could it be groomed perhaps to be made rideable earlier in the season? I can't imagine a better use for the trail fees other than to take care of the trail. If it's not being groomed, what is happening to the fees? Sorry, I know I said my question would be more narrow, but I guess I ended up with more than question, some of which may not be so narrow, but at least I didn't jump the trail. --- Robert F. This section of path gets very high usage and the current conditions result in an almost unusable trail each spring. Walkers and joggers and cyclists can't keep off of it in late winter/early spring when it's very wet and their footprints and wheel ruts then harden when things dry out. It takes quite a while for the trail to become rideable again, even with fatter tires. Given its location in an urban setting and its importance to accessing a very large employment center, this path should be paved. Would Dane Co. Parks be the lead on this sort of thing? Is the obstacle financial or is it about snowmobile access? I'd be interested in working with some folks to try and make progress on it. Thanks. The trial occurred more than three months after the city council approved the "Pollinator Protection Task Force" report which seeks to protect pollinators--bees, butterflies, moths, bats, hummingbirds, etc., and preserve pollinator habitat But the city's Building Inspection Division continues to order plantings that pollinators use removed and is prosecuting people such as me who don't comply.
