Yes, that's what I meant :-). /bin/checkpw is the most interesting thing
here. Which checkpassword program is this?

Yes, but first connect with telnet, then do the ps -A and find 
bincimap-up, then attach with strace, then try to log in and they 
following dump from strace is what will show what is going on.

It may be that /bin/checkpw is expecting other permissions on the Maildir 
directories; we will see.
