These people are selling at a loss. Few people make money solely on
domain name sales. The market is too competitive. We sell ours at US$19
and after administrative overhead, it is barely break even. Then we
sell them an email package and that's how we make money.
TuCows pays VerSign US$6 per domain/year, plus they have their own
administrative overhead including the excellent support they give to us
resellers. That costs money. They are also entitled to some profit
margin. I would like to see the wholesale costs for the gTLD names drop
to $8 or $9, but realistically, it won't make a huge difference to my
bottom line.
