"IDE" and "slim" are mutually exclusive, to my experience.  At least in
the common sense of "IDE".

What I use is just multiple xterms with vim, gdb, make and man,and
I'd happily call it an IDE, but some people seem to think that an IDE
requires the user to point and click at things.

(X)Emacs might be considered an IDE, but then there's the question how
"slim" it is.

For a graphical IDE that's good (and nowhere near "slim"), try kdevelop
(http://www.kdevelop.org).  It's very neat.
