I run KDE2 apps under Blackbox all the time. I like the applications
because they all have a common interface. I run them under BB because it
saves memory. Aside from the fact that the apps take a little longer to
start, they run perfectly well, and in some cases, faster than under Kwin.

All you really need are the base packages, to get support libraries, and
the kdevelop package. Remember, just because KDE is released as an
integrated suite doesn't mean you can't run the individual components by
themselves.
