I have always gotten errors, on Slackware Linux (4.0, 7.0, 7.1, 8.0), FreeBSD (4.1.1, 4.3, 5.0-dev) and OpenBSD (2.9). Maybe the autotools a relatively good idea. However, on projects that use them, they should never be needed by anyone else but the developers. (Why does ./configure insist on checking for them?
