They didn't so much as to solve the specific problem, but indicating that it 
was delimiter problem just let me know that I have to now hit delete after 
hitting the period to get into text mode and it typing the abbreviation.  I 
know it's workaround solution but if you don't want to hit delete then I would 
suggest using Typinator which doesn't have this delimiter problem.
