Not necessarily. Wouldn't it be easier to simply rename the directories
on Quantum and Anduin as the version names change?

There would be no need to keep an rc1 or beta1 or whatever version
directory once the final release is done. At least that would be one
way to do it. I suppose there is benefit and drawback no matter which
way we do it.
