I know this is none of my business, but to my mind there is a great deal
of difference between a build-time dependency and a run-time one.

An optional run-time dependency IS part of the configuration:
WUIP (Will Use If Present) vs WRINP (Won't Run If Not Present).

Contrasted with: MBPTB (Must Be Present To Build), and perhaps: MBPTBOPX
(Must Be Present To Build Optional Part X), or even: CBRAB (Can Be
Removed After Building).

But all this information is interesting, and leads to cleaner systems
once you understand it all. But maybe it's all to difficult (IATD)
especially when you have a release coming up... :-)
