 Since I said that I care about abiword and gnumeric (and, for the
moment, gnome-media - I haven't yet tried pulse and pavucontrol),
these are the packages / versions that I care about.

 In this list, '=>' means 'is used by:'. I think these are in my
build order, and I don't think any of them *conflict* with gnome-3
packages.

 Please let me know if you think any of these are in conflict with
your plans.

 One or more of these might be newer than what is in the book - if
so, I'm happy to update them (they are all in use on my current
desktop).

 - these are in the book and used everywhere:

 1. libxml2-2.7.8 => general

 2. glib-2.30.1 => general

 3. gdk-pixbuf-2.24.0 => general, also used by gtk+-3

 4. gtk+-2.24.8 => general

 5. pango-1.29.4 => general

 6. cairo-1.10.2 => general

 7. libIDL-0.8.14 => firefox, ORBit

 8. libart_lgpl-2.3.21 => libgnomecanvas

 9. ORBit-2.14.19 => libbonobo, abiword
  currently gnome platform, could move, e.g. to 'gnome2 legacy'

10. libbonobo-2.32.1 => libgsf, libgnome, gnumeric, abiword
  similarly could move out of gnome platform

11. GConf-3.2.3 => libbonoboui, libgnomeui, goffice, gnome-vfs,
 gnome-media
note that this provides gconf-2.0.pc and can therefore happily
replace GConf2

12. libgsf-1.14.21 => goffice, abiword, gnumeric

13. libcanberra-0.28 => libgnome, gnome-media

14. libgnome-2.32.1 => gnumeric
  similarly could move out of gnome platform

15. libgnomecanvas-2.30.3 => libbonoboui, libgnomeui
  similarly could move out of gnome platform

16. libbonoboui-2.24.5 => libgnomeui, gnumeric

17. libcroco (0.6.2) => librsvg-2.34.2 (actually, I no longer build
 croco, but it is recommended for specs compliance)

18. librsvg-2.34.2 => abiword

19. gnome-vfs-2.24.4 => libgnome, abiword, gst-plugins-base
 (perhaps not *required* by gst-plugins-base)

20. libgnomeui-2.24.5 => gnumeric
  similarly could move out of gnome platform

21. goffice-0.8.17 => abiword, gnumeric

22. wv-1.2.9 => abiword

23. abiword-2.8.6

24. gnumeric-1.10.17

25. gnome-media-2.32.0 - actually, I don't care so much if this one
 drops out of the book, but for the moment it is useful to me.
