Well, since my original comment I've booted older systems on that
machine (trying, and again failing, to update firefox), so when I
got back to 7.9 I saw this on firefox - it lasted longer than on the
other gtk3 packages, but if you think that is a real problem then
you need to start using more bleeding-edge packages .

Alternatively, you might decide to go back to other gtk3 platforms.
I think most people here will regard this as "unfortunate, but
immaterial".

And if you really get upset by weirdness when a window appears, then
do not attempt to run asymptote-2.38 ;-)
