Well, since my original comment I've booted older systems on that

got back to 7.9 I saw this on firefox - it lasted longer than on the
other gtk3 packages, but if you think that is a real problem then
you need to start using more bleeding-edge packages .
No, I started on LFS/BLFS because I couldn't find a distro that worked
how I'd like. So, I wrote a package manager and built an XFCE system
based on BLFS. The black flashing windows on things like abiword,
gnumeric, etc were very irritating but, otherwise, loosely following
BLFS has resulted in a remarkably stable system. I definitely don't
want anything bleeding edge.
Alternatively, you might decide to go back to other gtk3 platforms.
I think most people here will regard this as "unfortunate, but
immaterial".
No, the system is built and works great. I just wanted to offer a patch
for an issue that all GTK3 users will encounter. It's certainly not a
show stopping kind of bug but, once everything is working great, why not
investigate and fix the small irritations.

No issue adding it into the patches repo with a proper header and/or
adding a note about it in the BLFS wiki for GTK.
