For people using the Free nv driver (yes, I know that is tangential to this thread) it seems that the non-dri linux targets in Mesa do not link against libdrm. At least, that is how it stands for my hacked version of linux-ppc on ppc64 32-bit multilib (hacked to use -m32). So, people with cards from the "evil empire" using non-proprietary drivers can probably save a few seconds by omitting libdrm. The resulting glxgears is of course horribly slow, but it does work.
