Sorry about that, I think I have it sorted now. Thanks for the suggestions- one of the first things I did was create the /media/auto dir manually, it made no difference. Haven't tried mount points elsewhere yet, but determined to get this thing working this time. On the last three builds of LFS have abandoned autofs.
