Building on one machine to bootstrap a build on another _is_
possible, but it means using the fsf config files for gmp
Hallo Ken,
first of all: after reading Pauls an your e-mails I started remembering,
that I really had a similar problem last year. Sorry, I am 81 and my
memory is not more the same. Very probably I also started building
something on my laptop, as I was, like now, out of home. I shall take
notes for next year ;-)
Then: I appreciate much your extended explanations in your mail. I
understood and I can share them.
I have now several proposals from the forum participants, and I shall
try them, probably starting with Armins one. I have to be carefull not
to damage my system during my vacations, although I have three BLFS
systems on my laptop, as you recommended. I shall apply also Bruce's
recommendations at home, as they seem to be basic for the future
behavior on bootstraping. I needed to compile Samba, in order to
communicate between my smart-phone and my laptop, but it will not be a
tragedy if I have to wait until beeing at home.
Meanwile a lot of thanks to all participants with the plenty of advices,
Edgar
