I don't see where you've posted the results of Bruce's suggestion.

I believe we've told you before when you tried this that *in general* you can 
no longer just port a LFS build to some arbitrary machine.  GMP is certainly a 
problem, but it's not necessarily only that.  Different CPU's may have 
different capabilities, among them not only the 32 vs 64 bit differences, but 
what's in the flags.  It seems your desktop and laptop are more different than 
you suppose.  I suggest you do as Bruce wrote.
