I personally have 2 types of external hard drives and take my word for it
they do not take up much room at all. The first kind is a model that sits
flat on the desk and it's around 8 inches front to back and ruffly 4 inches
wide. The other type I have is what is some times called a surf board model
because it's more vertical standing several inches high but only 2 or 3
inches wide.
