Victor, I think that quick tutorial would be a great help to some of us.
I have used remote access as you have described myself and it is a great
tool for troubleshooting.

Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] remote access

Hi Folks,

There is a program that comes with Windows, which allows you to connect
via
remote connection with any computer on the net. The best part is that
it's
free, so no exorbitant costs involved. Well, none, save for buying
Windows
XP. Smile.

It's called Remote Access, and it's quite as capable as System Access
and
it's RIM software.

I have used this program before, as my brother and I took it out for a
test
drive.

Unfortunately, if there is no speech on the computer you are connecting
to,
there is no way for Jaws to read what is within the remote screen. So
in
that sense, it isn't accessible, but then again, Microsoft is treating
us
the same way they are treating their sighted customers, in that the
image
that comes across on the screen for them is only an image of the actual
screen, but just as interactive as being on the particular remote
desktop

Having said that though, when you set up the connection and are filling
out
all the information about the IP address, username and passwords, there
is a
check box you can check to allow sound to come through the connection.

Once that's done, any sound that comes through the other computer's
speakers, will come out your computer's speakers, as though you are
using
the remote system.

Once you've connected to the remote system, you can simply activate
Windows
Narrator, assuming that it's installed, and use the narrator to navigate
the
system.

Any keyboard commands once the two computers are connected are for the
remote computer, and not your own.

Jaws does mute itself, or maybe just doesn't know what to do with that
sort
of window, Smile, but in any case, you don't have dual speech coming
from
your computer like it's possessed.

I should also note that I'm not sure if it's possible to alternate
between
the two computers, as we didn't get that far with the remote access, so
you'll all have to wait until we try it again, and report back.

An alternative thing you might want to do is install Jaws as a 40 minute

demo, and use it that way to diagnose quick problems that can be taken
care
of quicker than the 40 minutes are up. At that point, once the problem
is
done, you can show them how to uninstall the program using the remote
access
software.

If you need detailed instructions on how to configure your computer to
do
this, just let me know, and I'll get my brother to jot down the
instructions, and I'll adapt them to blind individuals.
