Hi Roger, OK sorry if I misunderstood. I think I have it straight now.
If you send email to your girlfriend's address or to yourself it never
shows in the Inbox. I know that you said that you are using POP3 email.
What I forgot to ask is who is hosting the email or are you hosting your
own email. I hate to make assumptions but judging by your email address
I am going to guess that you are using Verizon's POP3 and SMTP servers
and you are not hosting the email yourself. Does your girlfriend use
Verizon's servers as well? Even if she does and both of your are on the
same local area network (or even in the same room for that matter) I
would hesitate to think that the problem is with your local area
network. Here is why, when you compose a message and send it your email
client (Outlook) will contact the SMTP server that you have entered into
your account settings, such as outgoing.verizon.net; because that is the
only thing it knows to do with the message. Verizon's SMTP server
verifies your credentials (account and password) andaccepts it onto
their servers which can be anywhere in the world. Once there your
girlfriend's email client will connect to Verizon's POP3 email servers,
which like I said can be anywhere. If her credentials check out
Verizon's email servers, such as incoming.verizon.net, will allow her
client to download the email. So as you can see, even though you may be
sending an email only from your computer on one side of the room to her
computer on the other the email must leave your local network and
transnverse any number of connections. To verify that the problem is not
with your local network you can try sending her an email from a web site
out on the internet. One site that you can use to send her an email is
www.mail2web.com If she doesn't get the mail then the problem is not
with your local area network as I suspect. Now with that said, is the
problem with her email, yours, or both. Does she have any issues
receiving email from anyone else, or is just your address? Do you have
any issues sending to anyone else, or is just her address? If you use
another email address from your computer to send her an email does it
get to her? Sometimes we make things much more complicated then need be.
Don't overlook the obvious. Did she accidentally add your email address
to a spam filter on her computer? Have you checked the junk mail filters
and junk mail box in her Outlook for signs of your email? The other
thing is to check it the other way, can you receive email from her?
Frank

Frank,

I'm using a pop3 server.
You wrote,
2) If you are using POP3 the email gets downloaded from the POP3 server
and is removed from the server by default. So if you compose an email to
yourself on computer A then do a send/receive it will be uploaded to the
SMTP server and then downloaded back from the POP3 server right back to
computer A and then removed from the POP3 server. So if you log onto
computer B the email will not be downloaded from the POP3 server because
it has already been marked for deletion. To change this behavior, in the
advanced tab of the "more settings" dialog of the properties of the
email account there is a check box which can be checked which says
"Leave a copy of messages on the server". The checkbox that says "Remove
after emptying deleted items" box should also be checked. The effect of
this is that when you compose and email on computer A and then do a
send/receive the email will be uploaded to the SMTP server and
downloaded from the POP3 server. However, because of the state of that
check box the email will remain on the POP3 server and can be downloaded
from the server when accessed on computer B.

Frank, I don't think you understand.
I'm not trying to get the same message on two different computers. The
problem is when I send my girl , or Myself an email, it just does not
show
up in either one of our inboxes. And like I said in the original
posting, if
I go to my sent folder, it says that the email has been sent. I don't
usually send myself emails. but when I found out that my girl has not
received any emails from myself in a couple of days, and everyone else
outside of my network has been receiving emails from Me, Well It was
time to
do what they call, A process of elimination. I needed to figure out
weather
My girls computer had a problem, or whether it was a network issue. It
just
made cense to Me.
Thank you for the thoughts.

Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] Network, emailing issue

Although I honestly do not understand why folks like to email themselves
I actually have been asked about how to do this on several occasions.
The answer depends what form of email is being used. For example is it
Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP4, or something else. Lets look at a few
scenerios.
1) If you are using Microsoft Exchange this is a very simple operation
and is handled for you by Outlook. Everytime Outlook validates your
credentials against the Exchange server it will automatically (by
default) update all of your folders on the local computer. So if you
send yourself an email and that email has not been deleted from the
Exchange server then that email will show up in your Inbox (or wherever
you designate it be sent) regardless of what computer you log on from.
If you are running Outlook in Cached mode then that email will stay on
the local computer even after disconnecting from from the Exchange
server.
3) If using IMAP4 emails really never leave the server and remain on the
server until they are purged either manually or automatically. If an
item is not marked as deleted it will not get purged and should be
available from any computer that can access that email account. One word
of caution here is that it is not recommended to have more then one
computer logged onto an IMAP4 account at the same time because of the
possibility of trying to access an email that has already been purged
from another machine.
I hope some of this helps but like I said I really don't see the
necessity of emailing yourself over a network since it usually is easier
to transfer information through the use of network shares.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Network, emailing issue

Hello everyone,

I've recently noticed that i have not been able to email from one
computer
to another on my network. I'm able to email on each computer out of the
network, but when i go to email my self or my girls computer it doesn't
work. And what is even weirder, i can go to my sent folder in outlook,
and
the email that i sent myself will be there, but i will never receive the
message in my inbox. I'm running windows XP, Outlook 2003, and the free
version of Avast. I also did the service pack 3 update. I'm really at a
loss
here.
Can anyone suggest how to go about resolving this issue?

Thanks yawl,
