I don't.Mine is a Toshiba lap top drive so like your's, it has no power switch
and gets its power from the computer.  I don't unplug it unless I am taking the
computer somewhere.  I never know when I will have a desire to use I-Tunes, and
all of that info; program and music is on that drive.  It doesn't get very warm
at all.
