Hi,
No problem there. You don't need to reinstall Windows XP: simply do the
following in order:
1. Press the Start menu.
2. When the start menu shows up, press ESCAPE to remove it.
3. Focus will land on Start button.
4. Press ALT+Enter to open the Start menu properties.
5. When the Properties dialog appears, tab to the Start Menu tab.
6. Press tab on this and get to "Customise" button.
7. Press the Customise button by hitting the space bar to open it.
8. You will see another dialog sheet here labelled "General". Ignore this
one.
9. Tab instead to the one labelled "Advanced".
10. On the advanced tab, press tab until you get to where Jaws says "Items
Treeview".
11. Here, use your arrow key to move around. There are lots of switches you
can togle on or off. Your screen reader will tell you the state of each when
you get to it.
12. When you come to "Set Program access and defaults", likely it is off.
Press the space bar to toggle it on.
13. After this, just make sure you close this dialog by pressing Okay twice.
Now open the start menu and you will see it listed as one of the items.
You can also access the dialog box just stated above by going to the control
panel and choose "Taskbar and start menu". Follow the steps listed above.
Wish you the best.
Take care

Hi Ishe;
This is really weird. I remember seeing that in the past and I can't find
Set Program Access and Defaults anywhere on my computer. I have looked in
the Start Menu, all the different folders in Documents & Settings, the
Control Panel, and a couple of other places that I thought it might be. I
looked on my wife's computer and it is in her start menu. Is there a way
to
restore this particular folder or whatever it is, without having to
reinstall XP? Thanks a lot for your patience and help. Take care.

Sorry it must be "Set program Access and Defaults" in Windows Xp all
service
packs. You find it in All Programs on the start menu.
However, if you cannot find it there, try going to Control Panel, click on
Add or Remove Programs: Tab until you get to "Set Program Access and
Defaults" button and activate it.
Hope this helps a bit.

Hi Al & Ishe;
Thank you very much for your input. Yes Al, that was my first thought.
Removing the account, going into Internet options/programs page, and
arrowing to his A T&T account, and making it his default email client.
Ishe, I went to All Programs and couldn't find "Set Default Program
Access."
Is there a particular folder this would be in? Thanks much. Take care.

In my opinion, removing his account may not solve the issue of dismissing
OE
as your client.
You may remove his account from OE, but OE will still remain as your
email
client until you change your default email program. You can do this by
going
to All Programs then select Set Default Program Access. For Email, choose
another client such as MS Outlook or another program as the default.
Alternatively, you can go to Control Panel, choose Task Bar and Start
menu;
move to the Start Menu tab; click on Customise button. Then tab to the
Email
field and arrow to the program of your choice such as MS Outlook,
Thunderbird, Eudora, Live Mail or such stuff. Click OK to dismiss the
customise property sheet, click another Ok to dismiss the setting dialog
and
you are done.
I hope this helps a little.
Cheers,
Ishe

Hi Al & David;
Yes, we set it up as an email client. I know OE is a part of XP and we
don't want to remove the program, just the account, I assume, so that OE
isn't a working program anymore. Am I making any sense? I know my
computer
lingo sucks! As I stated in my earlier post, this is my brother's
computer
so I don't want to use XPLite and permanently remove anything from his
computer. So, if I remove the account would this take OE out of the
picture, so to speak? Thanks again, take care.

Mike,
When you say you installed Outlook Express do you mean you
only set it up as the email client? I am not aware of a way
just to install Outlook Express or remove the program
itself. If you use the remove account button it will deleted
the profile you established but the program will stay as
part of Windows. This is my understanding but may not be
gospel

Hi All;
We installed Outlook Express on my brother's computer for
him to try. He
prefers using his AT&T webmail and to remove OE. What is
the best way to
remove OE from his computer? Or, should I be asking about
just removing the
account we created? I noticed a removal button onn the
Internet Accounts
page when going to Tools / Accounts. He's running XPSP3
Home. All help
will be greatly appreciated. Thanks much. Take care.
