Actually it is a drive with no moving parts. essentially a 64 GIG iPod built into the computer instead of a spinning drive. The main disadvantage is size, so far they don't have the capacity of conventional drives but they don't draw nearly the power and are silent and very shock resistant.

I expect they are making bigger ones now but 64 GIGS was all available when I was buying.

Hi,
What is a solid state drive?

Recently Dale Leavens wrote:
Something which interests me is that I have a solid state drive. Presumably defragmenting it doesn't result in much by way of performance improvements but I haven't read anything on the subject.

Does anyone else know?

Thanks.

Yes, it is accessible and it can be used on all platforms.

Here is a free defrab utility that I believe works better than the one that
comes with Windows. It can be set to run daily, weekly or monthly
automatically.

Hi. I've never done a defrag on my computer, and I suspect I better start
doing so. I'm wondering, how often should one do it, and how does one do
it? Is it easy to do without sight? I have Windows 7. Thanks.
