Hi Bob;

I tried to use the, shift + 3, keystroke after a number to see if it would
read, pound or pounds. Example: 245#

Instead of reading 245 pounds, Jaws still reads 245 number. Is this a Jaws
setting & if not what do I need to change for Jaws to read pound / pounds
when the number / pound sign is after a number? All advice will be greatly
appreciated. Thanks much. Take care.
Mike

The original question asked for the pound sign, not the pounds sign.

The pound sign is the miniature tic-tac-toe symbol which is under the
shifted numeral 3 on the numbers row above the qwerty keys. This symbol
translates to the word number when preceeding numeric characters and
translates to the word pound or pounds, as appropriate, when it follows
  numeric characters.

The pounds symbol is used to denote British currency when reference is
made
to the pound sterling. This symbol actually looks like a lower case
letter
f with a base stroke similar to the bottom of a stylized upper case letter
  L.

If the original question had been more clearly defined, the confusion
might
  have been avoided.

Interesting note: Open notepad and generate the British pounds sign using
the numeric key pad. Then, place the PC cursor over that symbol and see
what character number JFW identifies it with.

  Hi Yvonne;

Sometimes you need the, £, sign. Your suggestion is an option but, it can
also be mistaken as the, #, sign. The pounds sign looks like a fancy
backwards 3. Where as, as you know, the number sign, which looks like a
tiny TicTacToe, can be used for both the number & pound signs in most
occasions depending on how it is inserted. Take care.

    Hi
Would it not be easier to do what I suggested earlier today?shift and
  number
3 on the number keys under the f keys.
Sureley that must be easier and faster
And of course the quote doller keys are shift 2 and 4 respectfully

    Yvonne

There are two ways to do this. The easiest one is to press the insert
key
and the 4 on the keyboard and use the down arrow key until you hear the
pound sign and press the enter key. The other way is to press the
numlock
key and type 156 using the keypad on the computer.
