Actually, and this is interesting, ladders for example, and all products for
which you need multiple starters, don't really sell as well, for the profit,
that you'd think.
Ladders are worth, basically, just a couple percent more than the timber and
leather used to make them. Less, when you think about the fact that you're
giving up a lumberyard pooduction slot to make them, which could've pooduced 3
timber in that space of time.
Let's go to timber itself, for another example: I don't have numbers in front
of me, but look at this yourselves. One timber needs 3 logs to produce. It
means, therefore, that you need two production slots to make one timfer; one
for the 3 logs and the other for the timber. Now, technically, timber takes 10
seconds whereas logs take ... something like 3 seconds a pop, so you actually
get 3 logs in 9 seconds or maybe a little more. Now, when I checked on this,
three logs were worth more than half a timber. So if instead of producing
timber at all, you used both of those slots to make logs, you'd actually come
out better, money-wise, though your storage would fill up fast.
Ladders are the same way. Their basic usage seems to be to keep you from
filling up your storage as fast. Realistically, you're hovering on a line there
between making a little and losing a little money with ladders, depending on
how you do the math and allocate your boosts. Now, that brings us to boosts.
There is a boost, Sharpened Axe I think it's called, that gives +1 log
production. Remember that log thing I told you about before? This is how I
start.
Buy the lumberyard, which comes, by default, with a single unautomated
production slot. Use the Sharpened Axe boost over as many boost 'slots as I
have. Manually produce logs, because yeah, it works really well. When I have
enough to automate that slot, do it. Rince, lather, repeat, until I have enough
to buy the farm.
Now, here's the interesting thing about the farm. Leather, on the surface,
doesn't look as good as meat does. Meat produces faster and sells for almost as
much, and if you have no free boost slots, going with meat is the best way to
handle your profit. However, by now, your +1 logs booststs ought to be running
out. If you have enough money, unlock at least up to leather in the farm. Using
the Quick Study boost can help mitigate the costs, if you don't mind the wait
time for another boost.
But then, then we get the Animal Whisperer boost. Imagine that +1 logs
production but it's leather instead. Leather which, unboosted, takes longer to
produce but is worth more. Then, you boost its production levels... I've made
many, many millions in a day, and I only have two boost slots.
Imagine what you could do with four. That's five valuable leather per slot per
15 seconds. The only problem is that you'll need tremendous storage size or a
good since of timing. Win; about it: you'd have 20 leather a minute per slot.
If you had 12 slots, that's 240 leather a minute.
I usually try to have more like 20 leather slots, because it makes sooooo much
money.
Well, this has been long and detailed. Hope it provides another perspective.
