Hi,

I also feel like the methods in which to access Steam and the various other
gaming services are kind of hidden. It’s not like you can just google how to
use steam with NVDA and expect to get an up to date resource – I just did it
now and got a reddit thread with my first result that was well over 2 years
old. While the basic info may apply, things have since changed, and this isn’t
as cut and dry for a lot of people who are not used to downloading and playing
mainstream games.

I do think that attempting a search of some kind and then asking for help is
not laziness. It’s simply asking for clarification on a subject that is unique
to a very small subset of people. That should be what this mailing list is for
– with the express intent on archiving and preserving the information given to
help others. Point them directly to a thread discussing something on the
mailing list – threads are, after all, well sorted and archived. This list is
not high traffic enough to make it impossible to find something and if people
started using hashtags to make sure people found what they needed it would be
even more helpful.

We do have the audiogames forum, which I have used. The amount of thread
scrolling I had to do just to find a tidbit of info was, at some points,
incredibly frustrating. And again, if you do a search on there, you’re finding
needles in haystacks almost constantly.

Not calling anyone out, it’s just the reality we have to live in and I applaud
those involved in the audiogames.net team for what they do and the resources
they have given us. It’s simply a lot more difficult to find an up to date
topic on things like this because things change each month. Though steam, for
example, stayed relatively the same for quite some time until recent changes
happened, no longer are you required to edit the desktop shortcut, for
instance, but nobody would realize that if they followed a 1, 2, or 5 year old
thread.

Just my .02 on this.

Yes I agree since the message was derected at me I also agree it was offensive
what does me not working and living on disibillidey have to do with what I was
asking for? And I agree it is not spoon feeding but it is auvis that my message
sparked a nerve but in a good way in the way that like others have said they
have been asking for such a list to be created and updated and have gotten
chrickits singingin when they have brought it up on this list. I feel that it
would be good to have such a resource since it wouldhelp not only those who
like me are trying to get into the gaming market but it would like you say
narrow down the results. And for the record I did google forza motor sport pc
and came up woith a bunch of results and nun of them were the pc game or at the
verry least the download link for said game. From Mich Verrier from New
Liskeard Ontario Canada.

Marta’s message was, in my opinion, offensive. Employment status has nothing
to do with it. We’re not asking for a huge and complete list of links. It
might be a bit overwhelming to some people when they find 6,875 results, most
of which aren’t what you’re looking for. Also, answering a question with the
results asked for is not spoon feeding. It is directly helping. Merely
telling someone to Google it is the lazy way. If you’re too busy to provide a
link, skip it rather than sending an insult. If you’re too buty to answer,
you’re too busy. Manage your time better.

Ironic - a message containing 2 words that does absolutely nothing to help
anyone in this thread or anyone reading it, but yet we’re complaining about
cluttering up the list asking for links.

I agree that research could be done. Far too many people just want the direct
link to something. I feel like internet searches should be the basic thing
people learn when they browse the internet so they can answer their own
question. On the other side of that, people here are probably used to obscure
websites and don’t realize that this is not the same as an audio game. You
don’t have to know the exact link. Still, though, really, I think doing a quick
search before asking this question would net you the result you seek.

On the other side of that coin, I don’t think pointing fingers at someone’s
employment status or lack thereof was at all necessary or respectful in any way
as it applies to doing a search, laziness, or any of that nonsense. The fact
that it was a long drawn out message complaining about how you work when
grabbing the link would have taken less time, lol. The irony is real on both
sides here and I hope I’m not the only one who sees this for what it is.

Yes, use your search engine of choice. If asked for the link, a polite hey, do
an internet (google, duckduckgo, privacy centric as it may or may not be,
search. It’ll show up is all that’s needed.

My first, last, and only message on this subject. TLDR – we are all humans
behind keyboards and all have difficult days sometimes. No worries, let the
games guide you and enjoy them for what they are.

Yes it is nice when someone is thoughtful enough to provide a link. However, a
lot of people don't have time to compile a comprehensive resource list of
links. Also, some of them, like me, haven't put links into email enough to be
comfortable doing it so I might say something like, "Yes I know this is a PC
game that it is available. Put the title of the game into your search engine
of choice. Personally I don't like google so I use another search engine
(actually a couple) more often than google for a lot of reasons. Some of us
are working and/or on a lot of lists and we don't have time to do all yoru
research for you. Some of you, Mitch for instance, I know you're not employed
so you're home and would have more time to do research on uyour own. When we
give ideas of what to type in in order to help someone research we are
encouraging that person to become more independent rather than expecting others
to simply hand them information and spoon feed it to them. Sure, if you're
friends with someone and want to provide a link, no problem. But if someone
gives you some information, like the mame of a game or the fact that they found
it on google, then you're perfectly able to learn to look it up yourself
especially if you have time. Expecting someone to do it for you when you have
time to do it yourself is lazy and unfair to other people and certainly not
showing independenc eor initiative. It is showing entitlement, expecting
people to do all the work for you. It's one thing if someone is new to tech or
newly blind or is extremely busy or whatever but the point is a lot of blind
people just don't bother to learn to research for themselves and there's no
reason why they can't. The purpose of the lists is yes to share information
but it's not just to expect people to always hand you all the info without
trying to get it yourself as well.

Yes that is why I made this post in hopes that people would pervade links to
these things instead of like you said just telling them to ook them up on
google. So I agree with that. from Mich.

My personal opinion is that if someone asks, specifically, for links, and you
know them, you should provide them, rather than merely suggest that the person
look them up on Google. That would be far more helpful, which is the purpose
of the list. After all, there are times when it is still difficult to quickly
and easily find something through a Google search.

Have you tried searching on Google for something like "forza motor sport

pc game"? That's what I always do and it usually finds what I'm looking

for unless the game isn't on the PC.
