Hi Thomas,
I am happy to help. I think I should clarify those links, because I am not
sure if I explained them right.
The boxed set you mentioned is exactly what one needs to play the game. The
downloads that are listed on the links I gave out are actual sections of the
before mentioned boxed set of manuals that cover about eighty to ninety
percent of the printed manuals needed to play. The missing information is
propriatary "game world" stuff that is not really needed.
So in reality, you could download the manuals from the internet and have
them on your computer for free. Of course, you could buy the books as well,
I did. If you do buy the books this is what I know of how they are printed.
Each page has two columns of text. In addition there is alot of charts
involved, many of which are reproduced in the downloads. There is also
artwork thruout the books as well.
The Dungeons and Dragons for dummies book sounds great, as long as it is
third edition or higher. Having never read the book myself, I am not sure
if it will talk about certain rules or not, and so I think the distinction
should be made.
I have never played D and D minatures, but I suspect that those are geared
for more mass combat type situations similar to warhammer and other large
scale armies.
As for canned stories and adventures, I think that I could even help there,
since I was usually the Dungeon Master I could write up a small one
character adventure to help explore the various skills and powers of
certain characters. Also, alot of Dungeons and Dragons web sites list
adventures and other free material for download that could help you get a
feel for what an adventure might be like. This just came to me, The
dungeons and dragons official web site also has free material, and I think
free adventures and perhaps even free introductory stuff, I will have to
check, but the site is not easy to navigate. I also don't know if the free
material is in PDF or not.

The one basic rule concerning the D20 system is this: The higher the roll,
the better the result. This is true with everything in the game.

I will try to have something ready within a day or two. I am guessing it
should be off list, right?
later,
allan
