Hi, Michael.
Thank you for that level-headed strait forward post. I only wish more of
us on this list was so level-headed and intilectual.
You are right. Many of us developers are reluctant to give any hints at
dates, time tables, etc because of what has befallen James North. With
STFC, Star wars, and my other projects my news is only what has
happened, and what my design plans are, but I have completely stopped
releasing my time tables. Sure I have them for my own use, but if I have
personal matters to attend to in my life I feel free to break those time
tables as they are not published and I can go back on my word to myself,
but not the comunity.
In fact seeing the comunity reaction I have lost my zeal for game
programming for the public. I'd sooner write for myself then sell to
those who are ungreatful, and complain constantly to the list instead of
taking it up with the offending party.
All things considered I understand somewhat James North is going
through, but he has also braught much of this upon himself by giving out
dates for things that never panned out like: I will be releasing it
today, or shipping by December 31, etc... Those kinds of things implies
a date is set for the release. If he doesn't think he can keep to those
dates better to keep the dates to himself until it is done, and ready to
be up. In fact get it up, and then say starting from date to date. That
is the only thing I can see will help.
