Hi all,

I haven't bought an audible level yet but needed to get a PVC pipe
oriented vertically on a project I'm working on. After some thought,
I came up with something that worked really well. I used two 1-foot
lenghts of keychain chain to do what I'm about to describe. I used
this particular chain because it has a small diameter and is
extremely flexible. You might think of something else that works
just as well. I taped one length of the chain to my pipe and then
taped the other length 1-quarter of the way around the pipe from the
first chain. Both chains hung straight down very nicely along each
side of the pipe. By moving the pipe back and forth relative to the
first chain, I was able to position the pipe parallel to the first
chain and thus vertically relative to the first chain. Then, by
moving the pipe left and right using the other chain as a guide, I
was able to get the pipe vertical in the other direction. If my
highschool geometry is right, the pipe should be perfectly vertical
within an acceptable tolerance. The PVC pipe was now vertical and I
was able to finish the project. I know this sounds like a real Rupe
Goldberg solution but it worked really well. If I'm not describing
myself very well, let me know and I'll try to do a better job. The
only bad thing about this solution is that my wife decided that since
it worked so well, I really don't need to spend $100 for the audible
level. Go figure.

Take care,
Ed Przybylek
