Actually I went to a digital keyless start system as part of my anti-theft interlock. You enter a five digit access code and the car starts.

That was a very common set up for GM for many years. Personally I know of it running that way from 89 through at least 92 as for other years, not sure. I just was not sure what to call the Key switch. Did you move your Key switch to the lower part of the dash in or near the cigarette lighter? -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Larry Stansifer Sent: Monday, September 10, 2007 7:16 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [BlindHandyMan] Putting the key in the ignition Robert, I think your Pontiac uses a two part system, there is the mechanical portion called the "key-switch and then there is the electrical portion called the ignition switch. The key-switch is located on the steering column just right and behind the steering wheel. The electrical portion is located further down on the steering column with an operating rod connecting the two. I think it is the same set up my El Camino had stock. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <mailto:blindhandyman%40yahoogroups.com> [mailto: [email protected] <mailto:blindhandyman%40yahoogroups.com> ] On Behalf Of robert moore Sent: Monday, September 10, 2007 5:39 PM To: [email protected] <mailto:blindhandyman%40yahoogroups.com> Subject: [BlindHandyMan] Putting the key in the ignition OK speaking of proper terms. What exactly do you call the Locking mechanism that you put the key in to start the car. I need to replace mine in the Grand Prix and I want to get the correct part the first time. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <mailto:blindhandyman%40yahoogroups.com> [mailto: [email protected] <mailto:blindhandyman%40yahoogroups.com> ]On Behalf Of Roger Bachelder Sent: Monday, September 10, 2007 6:30 PM To: [email protected] <mailto:blindhandyman%40yahoogroups.com> Subject: RE: [BlindHandyMan] Car talk slang Hi Robert, That is kind of funny. I had a similar experience in the past. I was helping a friend replace a radiator. When i was done pulling it i had him repeat to me what he needed. for the life of him he couldn't remember antifreeze. When he was Half way to the store, he called me to ask once again what was the fluid called that he needed. I then told him to just ask the parts guy for radiator fluid, He said ok and said that was easier to remember. When he got back to the house, he told me that the guy at the store was laughing at him when he asked for radiator fluid. I didn't really understand why the guys had such a kick out of the expression, because it is totally accurate. The second is a doughnut for the space saver spair tires. And last I admit sounds hoky but I got tung tied one time and called Anti freeze "Radiator fluid" My cousin in law will not let me live that one down. It is not the proper term but it absolutely is an accurate description.
