One would think on the Freight liner that the lug nuts would be designed to
tighten the opposite direction of the rotation of the wheel.
As you look at the drivers side of the truck the wheel turns counter clock
wise. As you look at the passenger side the wheels turn clockwise. So on the
drivers side I would think you would tighten them clock wise and on the
passenger side you would tighten them counter clock wise. Me thinks that the
point here is to have them tightened in a manner that is opposite the
rotation of the wheel so that the lug nuts do not tend to loosen up.
But then again That is only an educated gues. As the illustrious Larry would
say, I might just be talking out of my 33rd vertibray.

It isn't true on my 05 Chrysler. Counter-clock-wise loosens all 4 wheels.
However, it is true on my dad's 2000 Freightliner. I do not recall which
side turns which way either.

Hi all,
Actually Chrysler is the culprit for this one.
The lug nuts on a Chrysler product are designed so that the rotation of the
wheel will not tend to cause the lug nut to loosen.
I don't happen to have a handy Chrysler type vehicle to go see which
direction the lug nuts turn on which side of the car.
I also do not know if this is still tru of Chrysler products but it started
way back in the Forties or early Fifties I believe.

Robert, on my work bench is an old but sturdy 4 way lug wrench. it has
three sizes of lugs and one , or the fourth one is the pry bar setup .
it was great for changing tires on a old I think 1970 something
Plymouth Fury my father in law had. I got new hemorriods trying to
change the tire until I found out Plymouth turned the opposite way to
remove the lugs. Now I save that work for the kids. Lee
