Question I have is, markings on the tube proportional to how much fuel in the
tank? Meaning corresponding to the length of the tube, half, three quarters,
etc. hmm? I have a light probe with color identifier unit, wonder if that will
work. Thanks guys, will give these ideas some effort!

Tom,
I have been pondering over that. Looking at mine my fill cap is outside. I
think that possibly the science products light sensor on a probe may work. I
no longer have one so I can't test the theory. On my tank the float is
white in a clear tube. I would think that the light sensor on the probe
would notice the difference when it passed over the float area
I do have the NFB light sensor I will try that in the next day or so.
.

Is there a fill cap directly on top of the tanks?
If so, make up a stick a bit longer than the depth of the tank with a small
float
like a pingpong ball on its bottom.
Then open the fill cap and extend the stick down into the tank till the
float
hits the oil and you feel the resistance.
You might need help marking the stick to coordinate witht the gauge but that
should do it.

If the fill cap is up on ground level, I'll have to puzzle about that a bit.
