Hi Bill, Well, that is probably the most important function of this list and the main reason I stay with it. A couple of years ago Tom and I had the privilege of helping a teaching assistant with a student who wanted to take a plumbing/refrigeration course or something like that. I don't know if the kid will ever go on to make some sort of technical career with this but probably more importantly, there is a teaching assistant and at least one shop teacher with a new perspective on what and how blind people might adapt technique to make it work.
It is my experience that probably the most important lesson we need to teach if we are to succeed is that there isn't necessarily only one way to accomplish a task and the usual way isn't necessarily even the best way. Once people begin to use their imagination and open their mind a little everything changes. I like to think that in some small way my experiences can advance that and I hope I can, at times at least help someone else not have to reinvent these things each and every time. That energy can then be used to move further forward. You know Dale, you've done it again ol' buddy! This tip on learning how to sweat solder is fabulous -- and other tips on this subject from this list have likewise been excellent. I have to relate this because I'm certain at least one other member of the list can relate. When I initially went totally blind while living in Wheaton, IL. I contacted the Illinois department that is mandated to assist folks dealing with this sort of thing -- I think it was called Department of Rehabilitation Services (DORS). I had asked about learning how to do some of the normal home maintenance tasks such as sweat soldering because I had a project in play at this time. I was told by an "expert trainer" that it wasn't possible. I should have known better! Now I do! ---------------- Bill Gallik E-Mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - "There is nobody so irritating as somebody with less intelligence and more sense than we have." - Don Herold [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
