As with many handyman jobs you have choices. If a professional is coming in to lay new carpet the furniture will need to be removed. They would likely cut it across into two or three pieces just to make it easier to handle getting it ou t. I had a case where I was removing the carpet and exposing the hardwood floor under it. In that case the furniture stayed in the room. I even jacked up the china cabinet and took the carpet out piece meal. It isn't too difficult to take a corner and jerk it loose from the tack strip along the edge.. So it kind of depends on what is happening after you remove the carpet.. If new carpet, well you need the stuff out to lay new. If say floor tile, you might be able to move things around. Keep in mind y ou will need to set up center lines and such to get things started straight and equally spaced. If laminate flooring, check the directions, I would think you might be able to work around the furniture. A lot depends on how much furniture we are talking ablut and where you have room to store it in the mean time. A lot of local conditions to consider rather than a hard and fast rule. Everything out of the way is nice but doesn't make the best for y ou.
