I guess if you had enough rods, you could measure quite a distance. What I was considering is getting one of those tactile tape measures for measuring longer distances and using the rotomatic for smaller measurements. I think one can still purchase the tactile tape measure. I don't recall exactly how you used one of these with that six-inch extension, but apparently it could get the job done.
