Kind of like taking a round ball and trying to hit it square with a round bat.

  Scott,

I can do all the math to calculate the lengths out to multiple decimal
places, but I can't measure them as accurately as I can cut them, not when
the blade is round, it's at an angle to the fence, the trim has some funky
shape to it, blah blah blah. It is just much easier to trim the trim to
  fit the fit.
