Al, I would not expect one of those auto hammer deals to be good for nailing a 2X4 to concrete. I've been doing something similar in my basement, but opted for drilling into the concrete with a hammer drill and using Tapcon screws to screw the boards to the floor. My brother-in-law who is a contractor recommended doing that over shooting nails.
