Al, A hammer drill makes a hole in concrete a hell of a lot faster than a regular drill. You still use a masonary bit, but it cuts through most masonary pretty smoothly.
Lenny explained the Tapcon screws, they look essentially like a regular screw, but with those double threads. They do come in several sizes. >From something around 2 inches up to about 4.5 inches. I used those 4.5 by quarter inch TapCons and they were hell to drive in. I'd go with the 2 and 3 quarter inch Tapcons. Still gives you at least an inch and a quarter into the concrete and a bit more if you counter sink the heads. Best to get the kind with a hex head instead of philips or slotted head. Easier to drive. -- Blue skies. Dan Rossi Carnegie Mellon University. E-Mail: [email protected] Tel: (412) 268-9081
