Dan,

Thanks to you and everyone for the clarification. One question on a hammer
drill. Is there some type switch or something that can toggle the hammer
feature on and off so if one wanted to use it as a regular drill one could?
Reason I ask, is my corded 3/8 drill is on its way out and I would replace
it with a hammer drill if that would give me some flexibility. I don't use
the corded drill often as most times I use my Ryobi 18 volt cordless.
But.... when needed it is nice to have.

  Al,

A hammer drill makes a hole in concrete a hell of a lot faster than a
regular drill. You still use a masonary bit, but it cuts through most
  masonary pretty smoothly.

Lenny explained the Tapcon screws, they look essentially like a regular
screw, but with those double threads. They do come in several sizes.
From something around 2 inches up to about 4.5 inches. I used those 4.5
by quarter inch TapCons and they were hell to drive in. I'd go with the 2
and 3 quarter inch Tapcons. Still gives you at least an inch and a
quarter into the concrete and a bit more if you counter sink the heads.
Best to get the kind with a hex head instead of philips or slotted head.
  Easier to drive.
