Richard would like to see some public statements about the new credit system before it's rolled out more widely. As the change may be considerable for some projects I consider it a reasonable request.
It's no good sending ordinary members to the Trac Wiki ( http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/SoftwareDevelopment) for information about the new credit system because as soon as some of them see, for example, the reference to 'sandbox implementation' they may wonder whether Boinc now runs a network of nursery schools for crunchers' children. When I looked at the new credit proposal, which I'm sure will have been thought out with impeccable logic and commonsense, I understood so little that I had to abandon the page lest I became momentarily unwell. We can, of course, hope that Jorden will as usual provide an explanation in comprehensible language on the (unofficial) Boinc FAQs, as Paul used to do on the UBW. We can also, as usual, hope that indefatigable forum helpers like Richard and Raistmer will provide comprehensible explanations there. Would it be possible for example on the boinc_dev forum to have periodical updates from Berkeley about why the proposal was necessary, how it's being implemented, the possible timescale for further implementation, and so on? Those of us who are mainly from the non-Seti part of BoincLand would then have an easily accessible source of information. It should not be necessary for non-Seti people to go to the Seti forum or to subscribe to the email lists to be kept up-to-date on such an important change. _______________________________________________ boinc_dev mailing list [email protected] http://lists.ssl.berkeley.edu/mailman/listinfo/boinc_dev To unsubscribe, visit the above URL and (near bottom of page) enter your email address.
