Honestly, I tore it all down simply because I like these organized
more efficiently, according to my own perceptions anyways. I don't
have any exact reason for doing it, other than it gives me a cleaner
work space to play in. The directory structure you guys have planned
for 4.x is a very good proposal, so what I'm using is merely my own
way of doing so. However, thinking about it, I am curious how hard its
going to be to upgrade to 4.x and migrate my current sites to the new
system. Seeing, however, that the new structure looks similar to mine,
in that each site has its own 'assets', moving them shouldn't be that
big of a deal.

I have got something worked out, but I'm not sure if it is specific to
my server, or if it is something that can be used on any host. Below
is my htaccess file:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{ENV:REDIRECT_ENTEREDSITE} !=1
RewriteCond %{ENV:REDIRECT_REDIRECT_ENTEREDSITE} !=1
RewriteRule ^.*$ %{HTTP_HOST}/$0 [env=ENTEREDSITE:1] [last]

I then add each domain as an alias to my site, which is done through
my control panel, which is custom to my provider, but I think other
control panels like cPanel offer alias features as well, so this is a
minor issue I think. I then create a subdirectory within my root by
the names of those said domains. So my document tree looks like so:

root
- boltwire
- www.roottoor.org

Within these subdirectories I have my assets and index.php files. It
would be the equivalent of the upcoming 'site' directory to be used in
4.x, but renamed to match the domain for the site itself. With the
htaccess, and each domain used as an alias, for each domain I type in
I get the resulting wiki install.

I am having an issue with canonical domains though, as I can't seem to
get, either through use of htaccess in the root or each subdirectory,
to point all no-www's to www's. I'm still sifting through this little
issue though, so I will hopefully have that resolved soon. If you feel
up to it, would you test this method and see if it is usable on other
hosts, or if is something special to my host?

I've got a VPS I want to test this on, but I haven't taken the time to
install a stack yet. I will use virtualhosts with my vs, but I still
want to test this out one way or another. If you want to see it
working, type www.roottoor.org and/or www.jboyd.org, and you will have
a my multiple domains on one site using the above method.
